1. Assemble all parts except the spring.

2. Press the shock absorber assembly as shown in the figure.

3. Check for smooth operation along the entire stroke, both when compressed and when extended. The shock absorber should move smoothly. If it does not (it does not compress or extend), there is a gas leak somewhere and the shock absorber should be replaced.

4. Check for oil leaks, strange noises or binding while performing these checks.
