Examination
1. First of all, check the condition of the No. 9 10 A fuse in the fuse/relay box under the vehicle dashboard. Replace the blown fuse with a new one. If the new fuse also blows immediately (without reverse gear), check the wiring in the section of the circuit between the reversing light sensor-switch and the mounting block. If the fuse blows when the reverse gear is engaged, check the wiring in the area between the sensor-switch and the combined rear lights.
2. Select reverse gear with the shift lever and turn on the ignition, - in the assemblies of the rear combination lamps, the white reverse signal lights should light up. Switch off the ignition.
3. If the lights do not turn on, check the proper operation of the corresponding lamps.
4. If the fuse and lamps are in order, find the reversing light sensor switch at the top of the manual transmission housing, disconnect its electrical connector and connect an ohmmeter between the two exposed contacts.
5. When the reverse gear is engaged, conduction must take place between the connector pins (sensor-switch closed). In any other position of the lever, the sensor-switch must be open (no conductivity).
6. At negative results of the described check replace the gauge switch.
7. If the switch is in order, check the serviceability of its ground loop. If grounding is good, check all wiring for open circuits.
Replacement
8. Disconnect the wiring from the sensor-switch.
9. Turn out the gauge switch from a case of transmission.
10. Remove and discard old washer.
11. Replace the washer and install a new switch sensor.
12. Connect electrical wiring.
