Warning! The models of vehicles covered in this manual are equipped with a supplemental restraint system (SRS). Before performing any work near the air bag unit, steering column or instrument panel, turn off the SRS to avoid injury from accidental deployment (see Chapter On-board electrical equipment). The SRS circuit wiring is easily identified by the yellow color of the insulation.
If your car stereo system is equipped with a security code, make sure you have the correct combination to activate the audio system before disconnecting the battery!
Latch
1. Trace the latch assembly with a marker or scriber to ensure proper installation during assembly. Release the tabs and remove the plastic latch cover. Remove the mounting bolts from the radiator support panel and remove the latch.

2. Disconnect the lock release cable from the latch assembly.
3. Installation is carried out in reverse order.
Note: Adjust the latch position so that the hood is securely locked in the closed position - the rubber pads of the supports should be slightly flattened.
Drive cable
1. Disconnect the hood latch release cable from the latch assembly.
2. Tie a piece of string to the end of the released cable and release the cable from the intermediate clamps and guides.
3. Remove the wing arch protection liner (see Section Removal and installation front fenders).

4. In the vehicle interior, remove the main and front sections of the driver's door sill trim.

5. Remove the two mounting bolts and separate the hood release lever from the bulkhead. Disconnect the cable from the lever.
6. Push the rubber grommet through the bulkhead and pull the cable assembly into the vehicle. Make sure the new cable assembly is equipped with a grommet. Untie the old cable from the string and tie the replacement cable in its place.
7. Pull the new cable assembly by the wire through the bulkhead into the engine compartment.
8. Connect the new cable to the lock release lever, making sure it is securely fixed in the support bracket.
9. Proceed with further assembly in the reverse order of disassembly.
Note: Use your fingers to firmly push the cable bushing into the engine compartment bulkhead (from the passenger compartment side) - make sure the bushing is seated correctly in the bulkhead.
