On automatic transmission vehicles, the reversing light and neutral control switch functions are operated by a single switch located at the base of the selector lever. This multi-channel switch also sends signals to various electronic devices (cruise control, automatic transmission ECU, etc.), transmitting information about the currently selected transmission.
To replace the switch, do the following: Engage the parking brake and block the wheels. Set the selector lever to position N. Remove the console. The switch is located on the side of the selector handle and is attached with two bolts or nuts. Disconnect the electrical connectors and remove the switch. When installing the switch, make sure that the switch slider is flush with the shift lever. Install the switch, tighten the fixing bolts or nuts, and connect the wiring. Replace the console.
After installing the switch, check that the engine starts only in PARK or N gears. In any other position of the selector, the starter should not work. Also check that when the selector is switched to the REVERSE position, the reversing lights come on.
