If the data is not stored in the PGM-Fi unit's memory, a problem with the unit's backup power supply system may be suspected. Check the following components:
- Fuse #54 (40A) in the relay box.
- Fuse #13 (7.5A) in the fuse box on the passenger side.
- White-red wire between fuse number 13 (7.5A) in the fuse box on the front passenger side and pin #21 of the 25-track connector B of the PGM-Fi unit.
1. Connect the DLC box to the 16-pin diagnostic socket and short the SCS pin. Read the DTC by flashing the D indicator. If using a Honda PGM tester or an external diagnostic tester: Connect the tester to the diagnostic socket and read the DTC.
Before connecting a Honda PGM tester or external diagnostic tester, read its owner's manual.
2. Check the reliability of the contact of the connectors of the PGM-Fi unit and «suspicious» for component failure.
In case of loose contact of the connectors, the indicator may give incorrect information.
3. Determine the malfunction by the code.
For diagnostics, you can use a conventional digital tester with probes.
Flashing indicator D
When the tester is not connected to the diagnostic socket, the indicator flashes at regular intervals (upper part of fig.).
When the tester is connected to the diagnostic socket and the SCS contacts are closed, the indicator flashes, as shown in the bottom of fig.
4. After the end of the diagnosis, disconnect the tester or box from the diagnostic connector.
5. Clear the memory of the PGM-Fi control unit by removing the clock fuse #13 (7.5A) in the fuse box on the passenger side for at least 10 seconds.
You can also clear the memory of the PGM-Fi unit using the Honda PGM tester when it is connected to the diagnostic socket.
During memory clearing, the clock is simultaneously reset and the frequencies of fixed radio stations are erased. Write down all the necessary information before removing the fuse.
6. Set the clock and tune in the radio frequencies.
7. If, after following the above procedures, no problem can be found, check the hydraulic system (see related section below).
