Attention. Do not subject the steering column to impacts in the axial direction.
1. Remove the driver's airbag from the steering wheel (see ch. Additional passive safety system (SRS)).
2. Remove the steering wheel (see above).
3. Remove the top and bottom covers of a steering column.
4. Remove the spiral wire (see ch. Additional passive safety system (SRS)).
5. Disconnect the ignition lock connector from the fuse box.
6. Remove the combined switch.
7. Remove the hinge cover.
8. Turn off bolts of the hinge and separate the hinge.
9. Turn off bolts and nuts on 8 mm and remove a steering column.
About replacing the ignition switch and steering column lock see ch. electrical equipment.
10. Install in the reverse order of removal.
Make sure the wiring harness is not pinched or in contact with other components.
Route and secure the wiring harness correctly.
Connect connectors securely.
Assemble the hinge in the following order:
- 1) Position the flat section of the steering column shaft in relation to the bolt hole in the pivot as shown in the illustration above, and insert the pivot.
- 2) Align the notch in the gear/clutch shaft with the hole in the joint, install and tighten the lower joint bolt.
- 3) Align the flat section of the steering column shaft with the hole in the hinge, install and tighten the upper hinge bolt.
