Caution: Do not subject the steering column to axial impacts.
1. Remove the driver's airbag from the steering wheel (see chapter Supplemental Restraint System (SRS)).
2. Remove the steering wheel (see above).
3. Remove the upper and lower steering column covers.
4. Remove the spiral wire (see chapter Supplemental Restraint System (SRS)).
5. Disconnect the ignition switch connector from the fuse box.
6. Remove the combination switch.
7. Remove the hinge cover.
8. Loosen the hinge bolts and separate the hinge.
9. Unscrew the 8 mm bolts and nuts and remove the steering column.
About replacing the ignition switch and steering column lock see chapter Electrical equipment.
10. Install in the reverse order of removal.
Make sure that the electrical wiring harness is not pinched or in contact with other components.
Route and secure the electrical wiring harness correctly.
Connect the connectors securely.
Assemble the hinge in the following order:
- 1) Position the flat section of the steering column shaft relative to the bolt hole in the joint as shown in the figure above and insert the joint.
- 2) Align the notch on the pinion/clutch shaft with the hole in the joint, install and tighten the lower joint bolt.
- 3) Align the flat section of the steering column shaft with the hole in the joint, install and tighten the upper joint bolt.
