Examination
If there are additional safety system components nearby, during the work see chapter Supplemental Restraint System (SRS).
1. Disconnect the 6-pin connector from the driver's side fuse box.
2. Check the continuity between the various contacts at different positions of the ignition key and make sure that there is continuity between the contacts shown in the figure.
Replacing the steering column lock
If there are additional safety system components nearby, during the work see chapter Supplemental Restraint System (SRS).
Removal
1. Remove the lower center instrument panel cover (see chapter Body) and the steering column cover (see chapter Steering).
2. Disconnect the 7-pin connector from the steering column beam electrical wiring and the 5-pin connector from the driver's side fuse box.
3. Remove the mounting bolts and nuts from the steering column and lower the steering column assembly (see chapter Steering).
4. Using a center punch, make a mark in the center of the mounting bolt and drill a hole with a diameter of 4-5 mm.
Caution: Do not damage the threads in the switch housing when drilling.
5. Insert the screw puller into the set bolt, turn the puller counterclockwise and unscrew the set bolt.
Installation
1. Without inserting the key, install the lock onto the steering column and tighten the installation bolt by hand.
Align the lock tab with the hole in the steering column.
2. Insert the key and make sure the key turns smoothly and the steering column locks.
3. Tighten the set bolt until it reaches the end of the thread of the narrowed section.
