Warning! The models of vehicles covered in this manual are equipped with a supplemental restraint system (SRS). Before performing any work near the air bag unit, steering column or instrument panel, turn off the SRS to avoid injury from accidental deployment (see Chapter On-board electrical equipment). The SRS circuit wiring is easily identified by the yellow color of the insulation.
To avoid damage to the PCM by electrostatic discharge, try not to touch the module's contact terminals. If possible, self-ground. 1. The PCM control module is located in the vehicle interior under the instrument panel, near the center console assembly.
2. Turn off SRS (see Chapter On-board electrical equipment).
Warning! If the car stereo system is equipped with a security code, make sure you have the correct combination to activate the system before disconnecting the battery!
3. Unfold the carpet from the bottom of the center console in the driver and passenger footwells (see Chapter Body), unimpeded access to the RCM assembly should open.
4. Disconnect the PCM electrical connectors.
Attention! To avoid damaging the processor, the ignition must be turned off (key in the OFF position) when disconnecting/connecting the electrical wiring.
5. Remove the bolts securing the PCM support bracket.
6. Carefully remove the PCM.
Warning! To avoid damage to the PCM by static electricity, try not to touch the module's contact terminals. If possible, self-ground. Use special electrostatic pads to store the module (ask at car accessory stores).
7. Installation is carried out in reverse order.
Attention! When replacing the module, it is necessary to enter the engine immobilization system code into it in the conditions of the car service workshop.
