Preliminary remarks

A fuel line with quick-release couplings is installed between the fuel pump located in the fuel tank and the fuel supply line.

When removing and installing the fuel pump and fuel tank, the quick-release coupling must be disconnected and connected. Perform these operations in accordance with the following rules.
  • Observe fire safety regulations.
  • Since fuel pipes are not heat-resistant, be careful not to damage them during welding.
  • Since fuel lines are not acid-resistant, do not use a cloth that is contaminated with battery electrolyte. If the line is contaminated with electrolyte, replace it.
  • Do not bend the fuel pipe when disconnecting and connecting. If the pipe is bent, be sure to replace it with a new one.

Fuel pipes with quick-release couplings allow the pipes to be disconnected and reconnected, for example when removing and installing the fuel tank, but once you have removed the holder from the pipe, it cannot be reused. Therefore, replace the holder with a new one in the following cases.
  • Fuel pump replacement
  • Fuel filter replacement
  • Replacing the fuel supply pipe
  • Removal the holder from the tube
  • Damage to the holder

The size and shape of the holders vary depending on the manufacturer. Be sure to use holders and tubes from the same manufacturer (see table). Using holders and tubes from different manufacturers and different sizes may cause leaks.

When replacing, install holders of the same color.

Disconnecting the tubes

Attention. Observe fire safety regulations.

1. Disconnect the (-) battery cable.

2. Relieve the pressure in the fuel tank by removing the fuel filler cap.

3. Relieve the fuel pressure (see below).

4. If there is dirt on the fuel lines, remove it before disconnecting the lines.

5. Take the connector with your hand, squeeze the holder and remove the connector.
  • To avoid damaging the components, do not use tools, but remove them by hand.
  • If the connector is stuck, squeeze the retainer, push and pull the connector until it moves freely, then disconnect.
  • Do not remove the holder remaining on the side of the tube.
  • If you have removed the holder from the handset, replace it with a new one.

6. Make sure that the sealing surface of the disconnected tube is free of dirt and foreign particles.
  • If there is dirt, clean the surface.
  • If the sealing surface is damaged or corroded, replace the damaged component.

7. To prevent damage to the tube and connector, place vinyl bags over them.

Once you have removed the holder from the handset, it cannot be reused, so replace it in the following cases.
  • During replacement of the fuel pump During replacement of the fuel filter
  • When replacing the fuel supply pipe
  • When replacing the fuel return line
  • After removing the holder
  • In case of damage to the holder

The shape and size of the holders differ from manufacturer to manufacturer, so install the holder from the same manufacturer (see above).

Installing the connector

Attention. Observe fire safety regulations.

1. Check the tube connection surface for damage and foreign particles. If there is dirt, clean the tube sealing surface.

2. Install a new holder on the connector in the following cases: When replacing the fuel pump.

  • When replacing the fuel filter.
  • When replacing the fuel supply pipe.

  • After removing the holder.
  • In case of damage to the holder.

The shape and size of the holders from different manufacturers differ, so install a holder from the same manufacturer (see above).

3. Align the axle tubes and connector, align the connector groove with the holder latch and insert the connector until 2 clicks are heard.

If the connector is difficult to insert, apply a small amount of fresh engine oil to the end of the tube.

4. Pull the connector and make sure it is connected securely. Also, visually check that the holder latches have securely fixed the connector in 2 places.

5. Connect the (-) battery cable, turn the ignition key to the ON (II) position (do not turn on the starter). In this case, the fuel pump is turned on for 2 seconds and the pressure in the fuel pipes and high-pressure hoses rises. Repeat this action 2-3 times and check for fuel leaks in various areas of the fuel system.
