Preliminary remarks
The fuel pipe with quick fittings is installed between the fuel pump located in the fuel tank and the fuel supply pipe.
During removal and installation of the fuel pump and fuel tank, disconnection and connection of the quick coupling is required. Carry out these works, observing the following rules.
- Observe fire safety regulations.
- Because fuel pipes are not heat resistant, do not damage them during welding.
- Because fuel lines are not resistant to acids, do not use a cloth contaminated with battery electrolyte. If electrolyte gets on the tube, replace it.
- Do not kink the fuel pipe when disconnecting and connecting. If the tube is still bent, be sure to replace it with a new one.
Fuel pipes with quick connectors allow you to disconnect and reconnect the pipes, for example, during the removal and installation of the fuel tank, however, if you remove the holder from the pipe, it cannot be reused. Therefore, replace the holder with a new one in the following cases.
- Fuel pump replacements
- Fuel filter replacements
- Fuel pipe replacement
- Removing the holder from the tube
- Holder damage
The size and shape of the holders differ depending on the manufacturer. Be sure to use holders and tubes from the same manufacturer (see table). The use of holders and tubes of different manufacturers and different sizes can cause leaks.
When replacing, install holders of the same color.
Disconnecting the tubes
Attention. Observe fire safety regulations.
1. Disconnect (-) battery cable.
2. Depressurize the fuel tank by removing the fuel filler cap.
3. Relieve fuel pressure (see below).
4. If there is dirt on the fuel pipes, remove it before disconnecting the pipes.
5. Take the connector with your hand, pinch the holder and remove the connector.
- To avoid damaging components, do not use tools, but remove by hand.
- If the connector is stuck, pinch the holder, push and pull the connector until it moves freely, and then disconnect.
- Do not remove the holder remaining on the tube side.
- If you removed the holder from the handset, replace it with a new one.
6. Check that the sealing surface of the disconnected tube is free of dirt and debris.
- If there is dirt, clean the surface.
- If the sealing surface is damaged or there is corrosion, replace the damaged component.
7. Place vinyl bags over tubing and connector to prevent damage.
If you remove the holder from the handset, it cannot be reused, so replace it in the following cases.
- During fuel pump replacement During fuel filter replacement
- When replacing the fuel pipe
- When replacing the fuel return pipe
- After removing the holder
- If the holder is damaged
The shape and size of holders from different manufacturers differ, so install the holder from the same manufacturer (see above).
Connector Installation
Attention. Observe fire safety regulations.
1. Check the tubing connection surface for damage and foreign particles. If there is dirt, clean the sealing surface of the tube.
2. Install a new holder on the connector in the following cases: When replacing the fuel pump.
- When replacing the fuel filter.
- When replacing the fuel supply pipe.
- When replacing the fuel return pipe.
- After removing the holder
- If the holder is damaged.
The shape and dimensions of holders vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, so install holder from the same manufacturer (see above).
If replacing the fuel pipe assembly, remove the retainer remaining on the pipe.
3. Align the axle tubes and the connector, align the groove of the connector with the latch of the holder and insert the connector until 2 clicks are heard.
If the connector is difficult to insert, apply some fresh engine oil to the end of the tube.
4. Pull on the connector and make sure it is connected securely. In addition, visually verify that the latches of the holder have securely locked the connector in 2 places.
5. Connect (-) battery cable, turn the ignition key to the ON position (II) (do not turn on the starter). In this case, the fuel pump is turned on for 2 seconds. and pressure rises in the fuel pipes and high pressure hoses. Repeat this action 2-3 times and check for fuel leaks in various parts of the fuel system.
