Note: Before adjusting the idle speed, check the following items:
- MIL lamp does not light.
- Ignition timing
- Spark plugs
- Air filter
- PCV system
1. Connect the tachometer.

2. Start the engine. Maintain the speed at 3000 rpm without load until the radiator fan comes on, then let it idle.
3. Check idle speed without load: headlights, fan, rear window defroster, radiator fan and air conditioner do not work.
Idle speed should be:
Except for KU model:
| MKP | 750±50 rpm |
| Automatic transmission | 700±50 rpm (in position N or P) |
Model KU:
| MKP | 670±50 rpm |
| Automatic transmission | 700±50 rpm (in position N or P) |
4. If necessary, adjust the idle speed by turning the adjusting screw 1/2 turn clockwise or counterclockwise.

5. Turn the adjusting screw 1/2 turn and check the idle speed again. If it is still different from normal, turn the screw another 1/2 turn.
Note: Do not turn the adjusting screw more than 1/2 turn without checking the idle speed.
6. Run the engine for one minute with the heater fan (HI) and air conditioner on, then check the idle speed.
Idle speed should be:
| MKP | 810±50 rpm |
| Automatic transmission | 810±50 rpm (in position N or P) |
Note:
- Do not turn the adjusting screw while the air conditioner is running.
- If the idle speed is different from normal, refer to the system troubleshooting guide.
