Pedal Height
1. Disconnect the brake light switch connector, loosen the brake light switch locknut and unscrew it so that it no longer touches the brake pedal.
2. Turn away a rug and measure height of a pedal from the center of a block of a pedal on the left side.
Standard Pedal Height (with floor mat removed):
- MCP: 192 mm
- Automatic transmission: 197 mm
3. Loosen the push rod jam nut and turn the push rod in or out with pliers until you reach the standard pedal height from the floor. Tighten the locknut firmly after adjustment. Do not adjust the pedal height with the push rod depressed.
4. Screw in the brake light switch until its plunger is fully depressed (the threaded tip touches the lining on the pedal arm). Then unscrew the switch 1/4 turn so that there is a gap of 0.3 mm between the threaded lug and the trim. Tighten locknut firmly. Connect the brake light switch connector. Make sure the brake lights go out when the pedal is released.
5. Check the free play of the brake pedal as indicated below.
Free travel of the brake pedal
1. Shut off the engine and check the free play of the brake pedal on the pedal block by pressing it with your hand. Free travel: 1-5mm
2. If pedal free play differs from specified, adjust brake light switch. If the pedal free play is not sufficient, the brakes may stick.
