Warning! The models of vehicles covered in this manual are equipped with a supplemental restraint system (SRS). Before performing any work near the air bag unit, steering column or instrument panel, turn off the SRS to avoid injury from accidental deployment (see Chapter On-board electrical equipment). The SRS circuit wiring is easily identified by the yellow color of the insulation.


1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.

Warning! If the car stereo system is equipped with a security code, make sure you have the correct combination to activate the audio system before disconnecting the battery!


2. Remove the instrument panel trim sections (see Section Removal and installation trim sections of the instrument panel) and the assembly of the center console (see Section Removal and installation the center console).

3. Remove the instrument cluster (see Chapter On-board electrical equipment) and a storage box (see Section Removal and installation trim sections of the instrument panel).

4. If the vehicle is equipped accordingly, disconnect the electrical wiring and remove the passenger airbag (see Chapter On-board electrical equipment).

10. Unscrew all the bolts securing the main part of the instrument panel to the car body. Lift the panel (in addition to the bolts, it is secured in the middle with three plastic pins) and, separating it from the windshield, remove it from the car through the driver's door.
