Attention. Observe fire safety regulations.
1. Check the fuse (10A) illumination of the instrument cluster installed in the fuse box on the driver's side.
- If the fuse is good, check for an open in the wiring between fuse No. 9 and the instrument cluster.
- If the fuse is blown, replace it with a new one and check the wiring between the #9 fuse and the instrument cluster for a short circuit. Also, check various components for internal shorts. (see ch. Body).
2. Remove the rear seat, tuck in the floor covering and remove the inspection hole cover.
3. Disconnect the 5-pin (4-pin on 4WD models) fuel pump connector.
4. Turn the ignition key to the ON position (II) and measure the voltage between pin #1 and #2 of the 5-pin connector (on 4WD models between pin #4 and «weight»).
If the voltage is approx. 5-8V, check according to item 5.
If there is no voltage, check the yellow-black wire between the fuel pump and the instrument cluster and the black wire between the fuel pump and the instrument cluster for an open «weight» G552.
5. Turn the ignition key to the OFF position.
6.
2WD Models:
Remove the fuel pump from the fuel tank (see above).
Do not damage the float and block.
4WD Models:
Remove the fuel pump and intermediate fuel pump (see above). Do not damage the float and block.
7.
2WD Models:
Verify that the resistance between tracks #1 and #2 of the 5-track fuel pump connector changes smoothly as the float moves up and down smoothly, and then measure the resistance at the float positions shown below.
4WD Models:
Check that the resistance between pins #3 and #2-4 of the fuel pump 4-pin connector changes smoothly as the float moves up and down smoothly, and then measure the resistance at the float positions shown below.
Verify that the resistance between pins #1 and #2 of the 2-way fuel pump connector changes smoothly while the float is gently raised and lowered, and then measure the resistance at the float positions shown below.
If the transmitter unit does not meet the above requirements, replace it (see above) (on 4WD models, replace fuel pump and intermediate fuel assembly).
If there are no malfunctions, check according to item 8.
8. Connect 5 pin (on 4WD models 4-pin) fuel pump connector.
9. Lock the float in position «F» and turn the ignition key to the ON position (II).
Attention. In order not to damage the fuel gauge, do not hold the float for a long time in the position «F».
10. Make sure that the arrow of the fuel gauge is set to the position «F».
If the arrow is not set to «F», replace the instrument cluster.
If the arrow is set to «F», the fuel gauge and the fuel block are OK.
