Description of the diagnostic system
The electronic control unit has a failure protection system that can detect a malfunction in the system. When the ignition key is turned to the "ON" position, the automatic transmission components are checked. If a malfunction is detected, the "D" indicator on the instrument cluster starts flashing.
Reading fault codes
1. Turn the ignition switch to the "OFF" position.
2. Connect the scan tool to the DLC (A).
3. Turn on the ignition and read the fault codes. For detailed information on the procedure for reading fault codes, see the operating instructions for the diagnostic device.
4. After reading the codes and troubleshooting, delete the codes (see the subsection "Deleting trouble codes").
5. Turn off the ignition and disconnect the diagnostic tool from the diagnostic connector.
Clearing fault codes
1. Connect the diagnostic tool and, with the engine off, clear the fault codes.
2. After clearing the fault codes, turn off the ignition.
3. Turn on the ignition for 30 seconds and then turn it off.
4. Disconnect the diagnostic tool.
