The electric drive control switch is equipped with a selector unit that provides a choice of the direction of voltage supply (on the right or left mirror). Without starting the engine, turn the ignition key to the ON position, lower the door windows and test all modes of operation of the electric drive of both side mirrors.
Listen carefully to the sounds made by the electric motors of the mirror drive.
If the motor sounds to be working properly, but the mirror does not change its position, there may be a defect in the drive mechanism inside the mirror.
Remove the relevant mirror and disassemble it to find the cause of the failure.
If the mirrors do not function and the motors of their drives do not make any sounds, check the condition of the corresponding fuse (see Section Fuses - general information).
If the fuse is OK, remove the control switch assembly from its support without disconnecting the electrical wiring from it. Turn on the ignition and check for voltage at the switch - there should be voltage at one of the terminals. If there is no voltage, check the circuit wiring between the switch and the fuse panel for an open or short. If voltage is present, disconnect the wiring from the switch. Check the switch for continuity in all of its positions. If there is no continuity, replace the switch.
Reconnect the wiring to the switch. Locate the wire coming from the switch to ground. Without disconnecting the switch, install a jumper wire between the terminal of this wire and ground. If the motors now start to work properly, replace the ground contact assembly.
If the drive still does not function, remove the appropriate mirror and check the circuit inside it for voltage (with the ignition on and the switch selector set appropriately). Turn the switch one by one to all its possible positions - in each of them (other than neutral [OFF]) voltage should be present on one of the mirror motor circuit wires.
If there is no voltage in all switch positions, check the circuit wiring between the mirror and the switch for open or short circuits.
If voltage is present, remove the mirror and test its drive for proper operation by connecting directly to the battery using jumper wires. Replace defective mirror (see chapter Body).
