Errors made when servicing the security system can lead to inadvertent operation of the system during service activities or to the failure of the system at the time of an accident, so always follow the rules described in the repair manual.
1. Symptoms of airbag system malfunctions are difficult to recognize. Always check for trouble codes before disconnecting the battery.
2. Carry out work on the airbag system no earlier than 180 seconds after setting the ignition switch to the "LOCK" and disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
3. Remember that when the ignition is turned off and the negative terminal of the battery is disconnected, the SRS security system trouble codes are not erased.
4. Do not expose the steering wheel pad to impacts or strong magnetic fields;
5. Avoid heat or flames on the steering wheel pad.
6. Even after a minor collision in which the airbag did not deploy, always check the lining surface and the condition of the sensors. When potholes, cracks, deformations, etc. are detected. replace the airbag assembly.
7. Never install elements of the SRS system from another car, use only new components for a similar model.
8. If the vehicle repair involves strong shocks, block the sensor first.
9. Never disassemble the elements of the SRS system.
10. To check the security system, use a tester with an input current of no more than 10 mA.
11. There are information labels on the housings of the SRS system elements. Follow the instructions on them.
12. After completing the repair work, re-diagnose the system.
13. When disposing of the vehicle or steering wheel, always discharge the airbag.
14. The outer surface of the airbag assembly heats up when deployed. Wait for the assembly to cool down to normal temperature. Do not use water for cooling!
