Checking oil pressure (Honda Accord 6)

1. A drop in oil pressure can be considered a sign that the engine needs a refurbishment. The oil pressure warning light is not a diagnostic tool for the lubrication system, but only informs the driver of a dangerous drop in oil pressure. Even the oil pressure gauge built into the instrument panel, despite the great detail of the information it provides, can only be considered an informational device. To obtain oil pressure data that can then be compared with the requirements of the Specifications, it is necessary to use a mechanical (not electrical!) pressure gauge in combination with an accurate tachometer.

2. Locate the oil pressure switch/sensor unit.


3. Remove the sensor-switch and install a transition nozzle for connecting a mechanical pressure gauge instead. Use Teflon sealing tape or FUM tape to seal the threaded connection of the nozzle.



4. Connect an accurate tachometer to the engine according to the manufacturer's instructions.

5. Check the oil pressure with the engine running at the speed specified in the Specifications and warmed up to normal operating temperature. Compare the measurement results with the standard data. If the oil pressure is excessively low, the degree of wear of the bearings and the oil pump should be assessed.
