Examination
Depress the parking brake pedal with a force of 294 N (30 kg) and check pedal travel (count the number of clicks).
Pedal travel: 5-7 clicks (when pressing the pedal with a force of 294 N (30 kg))
- If the number of clicks is not correct, check the thickness of the friction linings of the parking brake pads (see below).
- If the thickness of the friction linings is normal, adjust the pedal stroke.
- If slight adjustment is required (1-2 clicks), adjust with the pedal adjusting nut, and if more adjustment is required, adjust with the adjusters installed in the rear brake drums.
Attention.
- After replacing the parking brake pads, perform a basic adjustment and then lap in the pads (see below).
- If the parking brake pads were removed for any reason, depress the pedal firmly a few times after installation, and then make adjustments.
Fine adjustment
1. Raise the rear of the car with a jack and install supports.
2. Rotate the rear wheel by hand and tighten the pedal adjusting nut until the wheel begins to brake slightly.
3. Loosen the adjusting nut half a turn and check that the wheels do not brake.
4. Check up a course of a pedal of a lay brake.
Basic adjustment
1. Raise the rear of the car with a jack and install supports.
2. Loosen the adjusting nut on the parking brake pedal.
3. Remove the rear wheels and remove the plugs from the brake drums.
4. Through the hole, turn the adjuster in the direction of pushing the brake pads apart (move the teeth up) until the drum locks.
5. Turn the adjuster back 8 teeth.
6. Depress the parking brake pedal 2 clicks.
7. Rotate the rear wheel by hand and tighten the pedal adjusting nut until the wheel begins to brake slightly.
8. Install the plugs on the brake drums.
9. Install the rear wheels, release the parking brake, rotate the rear wheels and make sure they do not brake.
10. Check parking brake travel (see above) and, if necessary, adjust with the adjusting nut.
