Operation of seat belt pretensioners

In the event of a severe frontal collision, the driver and front passenger seat belts are instantly tightened, increasing their effectiveness.




The pretensioners are activated simultaneously with the front airbags.

In the event of a severe frontal collision of the vehicle, the sensor activates the system and the driver and front passenger seat belts are instantly tightened, increasing their effectiveness (ignition key in position II).

Warning: To ensure the effectiveness of the seat belts, follow these guidelines when fastening them: Fasten the belts correctly. Sit correctly in the seat.

Note: The seat belt pretensioners are not reusable, so contact a service station after they have been triggered. In addition, the front passenger seat belt pretensioner is triggered even if there is no passenger, so replace both pretensioners at the same time.

Handling seat belt pretensioners

Caution: Do not remove or disassemble the belt pretensioner.

Note:

• Repair work near the pretensioners or center console, as well as installation or repair of audio system components, may damage the pretensioners, so contact a service center for such work.
• Before disposing of vehicles equipped with pretensioners and airbags, contact a service station.

Seat belt pretensioner warning light (also serves as an SRS warning light)

This lamp is located on the instrument cluster and comes on when the airbag unit detects a fault in the system.

In normal conditions, the SRS indicator lamp comes on after turning the ignition key to position "II" and goes out after approximately 6 seconds.

Attention:

• If the indicator lamp behaves as shown below, it is possible that the system is faulty, so contact a service station for diagnostics.
• It caught fire while driving.
• Does not light up after turning the ignition key to position "II" or does not go out after approx. 6 sec.
