Operation of the seat belt pretensioners
In the event of a severe frontal collision, the driver's and front passenger's seat belts are instantly tightened to improve their effectiveness.
The pretensioners deploy at the same time as the front airbags.
In the event of a severe frontal vehicle collision, the sensor activates the system and the driver's and front passenger's seat belts are instantly tightened, increasing their effectiveness (ignition key in position II).
Attention. To ensure the effectiveness of seat belts when fastening them, follow these guidelines. Fasten your seat belts correctly. Take the correct position on the seat.
Note. Seat belt pretensioners are not reusable, so contact a service station after deployment. In addition, the front passenger's seat belt pretensioner will activate even when there is no passenger, so replace both pretensioners at the same time.
Handling the seat belt pretensioners
Attention. Do not remove or disassemble the belt tensioner.
Note:
- Repair work near the pretensioners or the center console, as well as the installation or repair of audio system components, can damage the pretensioners, so contact a workshop to carry out these works.
- Before scrapping vehicles equipped with pretensioners and airbags, contact a service station.
Seat Belt Pretensioner Warning Light (at the same time it is a warning lamp for the SRS system)
This lamp is located on the instrument cluster and illuminates when the airbag module detects a malfunction in the system.
Normally, the SRS warning light comes on when the ignition key is turned to «II» and goes out after approx. 6 sec.
Attention:
- If the control lamp behaves as shown below, a system malfunction can be assumed, so contact a service station for diagnostics.
- It caught fire while driving.
- Does not light up after turning the ignition key to position «II» or does not go out for approx. after 6 sec.
