About ABS system
This system prevents the wheels from locking (the wheels do not rotate) during sudden braking or braking on a slippery road, thereby ensuring vehicle control and facilitating obstacle avoidance.
About the operation of the ABS system
When the ABS system is operating, the brake pedal may vibrate, which is not a malfunction. Continue to press the brake pedal.
The ABS system does not work at low driving speeds (below approx. 10 km/h).
Note: When starting the engine or starting to drive with a cold engine, the sound of the pump motor may be heard from the engine compartment. This is caused by checking the operation of the ABS system and is not a malfunction.
Driving a vehicle equipped with ABS
This system is not designed to reduce the braking distance. As with models without ABS, the braking distance increases on slippery roads. In addition, on slippery roads, even when the ABS system is operating, the driver cannot always control the vehicle at high speed. Take precautions when driving.
When driving off-road, on sandy roads, on deep fresh snow, the braking distance increases compared to models without ABS. In these road conditions, choose a safe speed and keep a safe distance.
Using the ABS system
Make sure all four wheels are the same size. If the dimensions (outer diameters) of the wheels are different, the ABS system will not work properly.
ABS warning light
The ABS warning light is located on the instrument cluster and lights up if there is a fault with the ABS system.
If the system is working properly, this lamp lights up for a few seconds after turning the ignition key to position "II", then goes out.
If the indicator lamp behaves as shown below, it is possible that the system is faulty, so contact a service station for diagnostics.
- Lights up while driving.
- Does not light up after turning the ignition key to position "II" or does not go out after a few seconds.
In these cases, the braking system operates as in vehicles without an ABS system.
If the ABS warning light comes on at the same time as the brake warning light, the vehicle may become unstable due to improper distribution of brake fluid pressure during sudden braking. Go to a service station immediately.
