ABS system operation
About ABS
This system prevents the wheels from locking up (wheels don't turn) when braking hard or on slippery roads, thereby providing controllability of the car, and also makes it easier to avoid obstacles.
About the operation of the ABS system
While the ABS system is operating, the brake pedal may vibrate, but this is not a malfunction. Keep pressing the brake pedal.
ABS system does not work at low speed (below approx. 10 km/h).
Note: When starting the engine or at the beginning of the movement with cold. engine from the side of the engine compartment, the sound of the pump motor may be heard. This is caused by checking the operation of the ABS system and is not a malfunction.
Driving a vehicle equipped with ABS
This system is not designed to reduce braking distances. As with non-ABS models, braking distances increase on slippery roads. In addition, on a slippery road, even during the operation of the ABS system, the driver cannot always control the movement of the car at high speed. Take precautions while driving.
When driving off-road, on a sandy road, on deep fresh snow, the braking distance is longer compared to models without ABS. In the specified road conditions, choose a safe speed and maintain a safe distance.
Using the ABS system
Install all four wheels of the same size. If dimensions (outside diameters) wheels will be different, the ABS system will not work properly.
ABS warning lamp
The ABS warning lamp is located in the instrument cluster and illuminates when there is a malfunction in the ABS system.
If the system is normal, this lamp comes on for a few seconds after the ignition key is turned to the «II», then turns off.
If the control lamp behaves as shown below, a system malfunction can be assumed, so contact a service station for diagnostics.
- Lights up while driving.
- Does not light up after turning the ignition key to position «II» or does not go out after a few seconds.
In these cases, the brake system works as on vehicles without ABS.
If the ABS warning lamp comes on at the same time as the brake system warning lamp, the vehicle may become unstable due to improper distribution of brake fluid pressure during heavy braking. Go to the service station immediately.
