There are three most common ways to tow a car.
On the loading platform
The operator loads the car onto the truck platform. This is the best mode of transportation.
With wheel lift
The towing vehicle has two swivel levers that are brought under the wheels (front or rear) and lift them off the ground. The other two wheels remain on the ground.
With slinging equipment
The towing vehicle has metal cables with hooks at the ends. These hooks are wound behind parts of the frame or suspension and the car is lifted by cables from this side above the ground. With this method of towing, you can seriously damage the suspension or body of the car.
If it is not possible to transport the 2WD HR-V model on a platform, then towing should be done with the front wheels raised off the ground. If, however, the vehicle has to be towed with the front wheels on the ground due to the damage, proceed as follows:
- Release the parking brake.
- Shift the transmission to neutral (N) position.
Model 4WD HR-V is recommended to be towed only on a cargo platform. It is also possible to tow with all four wheels on the ground.
Note: If the 4WD HR-V is towed with only two wheels on the ground, components of the 4WD system may be damaged. If the car is damaged and it is not possible to tow it with all four wheels on the ground, then it should be towed on a cargo platform.
When towing a 4WD HR-V model with all four wheels on the ground, do the following:
- Release the parking brake.
- Shift the transmission to neutral (N) position.
Warning:
- If preparation for towing is done incorrectly, the transmission can be damaged. Follow the above procedure exactly. If you cannot change gear or start the engine (AKP), the car should be transported on a cargo platform.
- It is not advisable to tow the car further than 80 km and at a speed of more than 55 km/h.
- If you try to lift or tow the vehicle by the bumpers, you will seriously damage them. The bumpers can't support the weight of the car.
Locations of the towing hook and eyelets
Towing hook:
- Remove the cover on the front bumper.
- Screw the front tow hook securely into the threaded hole.
